Yesterday was the holiday program at T's school. We made a plan for him to sit with us, and to tell us when he needed to leave. We knew he wouldn't make it through the whole concert, but wanted him to be there for at least a short time. We gave him the choice of staying with his class or sitting with us.
He did SUPER. We could see he was getting a little stressed before he pulled my arm and said "It's time to go to Miss Lorie's room." HURRAY! While I would have loved it if Thomas didn't need that accommodation, it was awesome he could tell us what he needed, WHEN he needed it. I went along, at his request. Dan and 2 friends stayed behind just in case T. changed his mind to come back.
Thomas also show us and friends his classroom while his classmates were still at the program. He was very proud of everything. We were particularly taken with a family tree project the kids did. I've heard horror stories about how that is handled and the things some kids go through when given an assignment about family trees. The Kindergarten teachers did a wonderful project with the kids. They did a unit on "family" and talked about different people in your family. The kids then named people in their family tree. They left it all up to the child who to include in their family tree. Some trees were filled with lots of names; some, like Thomas had a few. The important thing is it had the names HE wanted on it.
Sooner or later, he'll be adding more names as he learns about them all. But for now, this is good.

Did he name his mother, your daughter, and if he did, what does he call her? Inquiring minds want to know.
