Here are some highlights of the last several years:
Meltdowns: T hasn't had a meltdown in several years, YAY! I know that the extensive amount of OT has helped tremendously, along with some therapy.
Horse Therapy: This is something I just can't saw enough about. T. has been involved in this for about 3 months solid, but on/off for the prior year.
Summer Camps: His first experience at came was pretty scary for all of us. Now the kid is a pro. Camp Avanti was his first camping experience. He went two years in a row. He also experienced a 5 day camping at Wilderness Inquiry ( a national organization that happens to have a base camp close to our home). Last year he attended a one week camp for 8-13 yr old with reading difficulties. All the camps were great experiences for him.
Physical growth: T is finally having a bit of a growth spurt. He's still a very slim guy, but he's adding a few inches in height.
IEP's: Many people hate IEPs and meetings. We're very fortunate to have a good working relationship with his school. His teachers are great. He still needs assistance with reading, writing, and math, but he probably will for quite a while.
Friends: He has a few friends at school, but really one 2 that he spends time with outside of school. We're working on that with him. He now attends a boys group with boys 8 yrs old to about 15 yrs old. He likes it so far.
Mentor: We've been approved for up to 8 hours a week for a mentor. We've been unsuccessful in finding someone who would be a good match.
Children's Long Term Services Waiver: We were finally approved for that. That's what helps pay for the horse therapy, respite, summer camp, mentor, etc.
There's so much more, but it'll have to wait.
I'll be back.
